Who is responsible and how to contact us

GADGIT company registration: 2025/431781/07. This notice covers personal information used for GADGIT services. Our company correspondence address is 31 Engelbrecht Street, Oatlands, Krugersdorp, Gauteng, 1739, South Africa.

For a privacy request, email support@gadgit.co.za and address it to the Information Officer. You can use the privacy request service without creating an account. Contact us before visiting or sending a device; returns and collections need their own arrangements.

Information used for your account and order

We use account and contact details, delivery addresses, order records, payment references and payment status to operate your account, take payment, deliver goods and provide aftercare. We also use necessary session information and technical security logs. Required fields are identified in the relevant form.

You may browse without joining a mailing list. If information genuinely needed for an order or required by law is not supplied, we may be unable to complete that service. Optional marketing preferences remain optional. We do not ask you to send card security codes, online banking passwords or one-time passwords to support.

Quotes, trade-ins and second-hand transactions

A device sale or trade-in request can include your contact details, device model, serial or IMEI where relevant, condition, photographs, quote history and information needed to make an agreed payment. We use this to assess and administer the requested transaction.

For transactions covered by the Second-Hand Goods Act, prescribed identity, device and transaction records may be mandatory, including a copy of an identity document or passport. We explain the relevant step and limit use to lawful transaction, verification, record-keeping and inspection purposes. Ordinary new-goods shopping is not, by itself, a reason to collect an ID copy.

Do not upload unrelated documents, passwords or personal photos. Before handing over a device, back up your information and follow the instructions for removing personal content, accounts, SIM cards and memory cards where possible. Tell us if damage or a fault prevents this.

Our reasons for processing information

Depending on the purpose, processing is necessary to take steps you request before a contract, perform a contract, comply with a legal duty, protect a legitimate interest such as preventing fraud or securing the store, or act on your consent. We do not treat every use of information as marketing consent.

When consent is the basis, the choice must be voluntary, specific and informed. You may withdraw it without changing the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. A purchase, support enquiry or stock-alert request does not automatically authorise unrelated promotional messages.

Where information comes from

Most information comes from you. Payment providers supply payment results, shipping services and couriers provide delivery updates, and suppliers may supply information needed for a product or warranty issue. A third-party sign-in service, where offered and chosen by you, provides the information authorised for that sign-in.

If another material source or purpose applies to an identity or ownership check, we must give the relevant notice unless a lawful exception applies. We do not treat publicly available contact details as unrestricted marketing permission.

Who receives information

Authorised staff and service providers receive the information needed for their role. Recipients can include payment services, banks, shipping services and couriers, hosting and email services, technical support, accounting advisers and suppliers assisting with a specific warranty or fulfilment issue. Our selected payment and shipping services are BOBPAY and Bob Go; only methods actually offered for your transaction apply.

A provider processing on our instructions must protect the information and act within those instructions. Some recipients also have their own legal duties and privacy notices. We may share information under a lawful request or where lawfully needed to establish, exercise or defend rights. We do not sell subscriber lists.

Permission for GADGIT marketing does not automatically cover unrelated promotions from another brand or a supplier.

Processing outside South Africa

Online services may involve providers or support teams outside South Africa. Where information is transferred abroad, an applicable basis and protection under section 72 of POPIA are required, such as an enforceable agreement or a recipient subject to adequate protection. Agreement to this general notice is not blanket permission for any overseas recipient or new purpose.

Ask support@gadgit.co.za for the recipients and countries relevant to your information and the safeguards that apply. We must keep the service-specific disclosures consistent with the providers actually used.

Marketing, launch codes and stock alerts

Joining the GADGIT email list is a separate choice. We retain evidence of the signup, its source, time and consent wording/version, together with the confirmation and any later withdrawal. A confirmation step helps verify that the address belongs to the person requesting updates.

Every marketing message must identify GADGIT and provide a straightforward unsubscribe route. You can also contact support@gadgit.co.za. A minimal suppression record can be retained to prevent accidental re-subscription. Order, payment, delivery, security and requested support messages are handled for their own purpose.

A stock-alert request is for the particular item requested and does not add you to general marketing. The separate promotion terms govern any earned launch discount. Unsubscribing from marketing does not invalidate an already earned launch code under those terms.

Cookies, local storage and tracking

Necessary storage supports sign-in, the shopping session, security and your privacy choices. Restricting essential storage in your browser may prevent parts of the store from working. Optional analytics, advertising and similar tracking must have a valid lawful basis and an appropriate choice where consent is used.

Privacy preferences apply to relevant tags, pixels, scripts and server-side advertising events as well as cookies. You can change an available optional preference later. We do not treat continued browsing as a substitute for a required consent choice.

Retention and deletion

Information is kept only while a defined purpose, legal requirement or another lawful ground authorises retention. When retention is no longer authorised, we delete or de-identify the information. Temporary sessions, unused enquiries, subscriber records, transaction records and statutory identity records do not all have the same retention period.

Closing an account or withdrawing marketing consent does not require us to erase a record we must lawfully retain. Company, tax and covered second-hand-goods records can require longer retention; a lawful investigation or dispute hold can also extend it. Retained information must remain protected and limited to the relevant purpose. We will explain a material retention reason when responding to a deletion request.

Security and incident handling

We apply access controls and technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the information and review them as risks and services change. No online service can guarantee that a security incident is impossible. Do not share credentials, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

If a reportable personal-information compromise occurs, POPIA requires notification to the Information Regulator and affected people as soon as reasonably possible, subject to its lawful qualifications. We must provide useful information about the incident and protective action; we do not wait for every investigation detail before making a required report.

Your rights and how to use them

You can ask whether we hold information about you, request access, request correction, object where applicable, withdraw consent where it is the basis, and request deletion when retention is no longer authorised. These rights have conditions and lawful exceptions; we explain the decision on your request.

Use the privacy request service or email support@gadgit.co.za, addressed to the Information Officer. Describe your request and how to reach you. We may need proportionate evidence of identity or authority before disclosing information; do not send an ID copy unless needed and a suitable channel has been arranged.

We help people make accessible requests and accept the applicable lawful channels. Confirmation that information is held, objections and valid correction/deletion requests are free. A formal access request may have a prescribed fee, which must be explained before a chargeable service. The PAIA manual describes the access process and applicable timing.

Children and automated decisions

Our customer and marketing services are directed at adults. If information about a child is necessary, a parent, guardian or other legally competent person must engage with us and the applicable requirements must be met. We do not invite children to submit identity documents through a general signup form.

Where a decision significantly affecting you is made solely by automated processing, contact us for the relevant explanation and available review or representations. Product recommendations and PC compatibility assistance do not authorise unrelated decisions about your creditworthiness or eligibility.

Complaints and changes to this notice

You may raise a concern with GADGIT or complain directly to the Information Regulator (South Africa). The Regulator provides current complaint channels, forms and guidance on its website and eServices portal. General contact: enquiries@inforegulator.org.za; 010 023 5200.

The date above identifies this notice. We may update it when a service or legal requirement changes, but a page update does not create new consent or remove an existing statutory right. A material new purpose or required permission must be addressed separately.
