Returns & Refunds
How to return a GADGIT purchase, request a refund, report damage or claim under warranty. South African consumer rights apply.
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Start a return or cancellation
Email support@gadgit.co.za with your order number or other proof of purchase, the product, your reason for returning it and your preferred remedy. Photos or a short fault description help us arrange the next step. You do not need to sign in or use an online form to exercise your rights.
We aim to acknowledge requests within two working days. Keep your email as the record of when you notified us. We will provide return instructions and a reference; this administrative process does not shorten a statutory deadline. Do not send a parcel to an unconfirmed address.
Defective or unsafe goods
Where sections 55 and 56 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) apply, goods that fail the required quality standards within six months of delivery may be returned at GADGIT’s risk and expense, without penalty. You may choose repair, replacement or a refund of the price paid. Assessment establishes the fault; it does not remove that choice.
If a repair fails to remedy the defect, or another defect appears within three months of that repair, the applicable CPA remedy is replacement or refund. Other legal rights and longer applicable warranties remain available.
Incorrect goods or damage on arrival
If the item, model, quantity or condition differs from your order, or the parcel arrives damaged, contact us as soon as reasonably possible. Keep the packaging and take photographs if safe to do so. Prompt reporting helps investigation, but there is no arbitrary 24- or 48-hour deadline that removes your legal rights.
GADGIT arranges and pays for the reasonable return of incorrect goods or goods damaged before delivery. We will agree the appropriate replacement, correction or refund with you. Do not use an unsafe item or ship a damaged lithium battery without our safe transport instructions.
Change of mind and online cooling-off
For eligible online goods purchases under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA), notify us of cancellation within seven days after receiving the goods. No reason or cancellation penalty is required. Only the direct cost of returning the goods may be charged under this cooling-off right.
ECTA exceptions can include personalised or made-to-order goods, goods that cannot by their nature be returned, and unsealed software or audio/video recordings. An exception must actually apply to the transaction; electronics are not automatically excluded merely because a box was opened.
Outside a statutory return right or a longer written offer made with your purchase, a discretionary change-of-mind return is considered individually. We will explain eligibility before you incur a courier charge.
Condition, packaging and accessories
Take reasonable care of the product while deciding whether to keep it. For a change-of-mind return, return the supplied accessories, manuals, bundled items and packaging where reasonably available. Tell us about any missing items or damage before dispatch.
Missing original packaging does not by itself cancel a valid defective-goods claim. We do not impose an automatic restocking charge on statutory cooling-off returns or a penalty on qualifying defective-goods returns. Any other lawful deduction will be explained and supported.
Back up personal data and, where possible, remove SIM and memory cards and sign out of device accounts before return. Tell us if a fault prevents this. Pack securely; we can help arrange suitable packaging or safe transport.
Inspection and decision
On receipt we check the order identity, reported problem, accessories and condition, and perform reasonable testing where necessary. We aim to provide an assessment update within five working days of receipt. A specialist assessment may take longer; we will explain the reason and expected next step.
We confirm the outcome and reasons in writing. If we dispute a fault, we will explain the evidence and how to ask for reconsideration. An assessment delay does not extend a legally required refund deadline.
Refund method and timing
Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method where available. EFT refunds go to the verified payer’s bank account. If the original method cannot receive a refund, we will agree a secure alternative; store credit is not forced in place of a refund you are entitled to.
We aim to submit an approved refund within five working days. Your payment provider may take additional time to reflect it. For an ECTA cooling-off cancellation, the full payment must be refunded within 30 days of cancellation. Applicable legal deadlines take priority over internal inspection or banking processes.
We confirm the refund amount, any lawful return courier cost and the payment reference. Never send a card PIN, password or one-time password to support.
Courier responsibility and cancellations
GADGIT covers reasonable collection or return costs for qualifying defective, incorrect or delivery-damaged goods. For an eligible change-of-mind return, the customer is responsible for the direct return courier cost. Contact us first so the return method and cost are clear.
To cancel before dispatch, email us promptly with the order number. We will try to stop dispatch and explain the refund status. If already dispatched, the applicable cooling-off or other return rules apply. If we cannot supply your order, we will notify you and refund the affected payment without undue delay and within any legal deadline.
Warranty and your rights
A product-specific warranty supplements statutory rights. Contact GADGIT to start a warranty claim; a shorter commercial warranty does not remove an applicable CPA remedy. Damage from misuse may be outside a commercial warranty, but a claim will be assessed on its facts.
This policy does not exclude any non-waivable right under South African law, including applicable CPA return rights for goods that differ from their description or agreed purpose. If unresolved, you may use an applicable consumer ombud, the National Consumer Commission or a competent court.
